| *Notes to Abbott, Bones, Brocklehurst, Davis, Longbottom, Nott, Patil, Potter, Smith, & Thomas* |
[Sep. 13th, 2005|07:08 pm] |
Congratulations.
There is a parchment outside my office door with five available time slots listed over the course of the next five days. Each of you and your partner are to sign up for one time slot, and arrive at my office prepared to discuss and defend your primary hypothesis, and armed with a preliminary reading list of no less than 40 sources (1 text is the equivalent of 1 source).
If the available times are not convenient for you, I do not care. If your NEWT project is not the first item on your list of priorities, I advise you not to waste my time. If you choose to engage in just that, it will be to your cost.

| *Several Sealed Scrolls delivered to Horace Slughorn by Owl Post* |
[Sep. 13th, 2005|06:56 pm] |
You never could resist the opportunity to show off, could you, Professor?
I have enclosed copies of my notes regarding improvements on the Wolfsbane Potion, at the Headmaster's request. There will be no need for you to return them. I'm well aware that you would copy them entirely or theive them outright.
Years ago, the beast in question responded well to the variation that included a tincture of Hellebore. Given the exactitude required for this particular draught, and the fluctuating status of market stores at this time, I advise against that brew at this time.

| *Note returned to Dumbledore with the same House Elf* |
[Sep. 13th, 2005|06:44 pm] |
Sir,
Horace Slughorn never demonstrated a moment's interest in my work until it suited him personally. I will happily share my old notes with him regarding developments in the potion, but only in celebration of never having to brew it again.
This Elf has an additional draught for you; take two spoonfuls with a weak tea before retiring this evening.

Deputy Headmistress:
I note that, in addition to the lecture I delivered earlier this week, you have also punished Miss Davis with a point deduction. If you have else to discuss, I will be in my office during this morning's break and my evening office hours. Though if you prefer that I come to you, I will be available to do so after supper.

| *Note tied to a small dark bottle, delivered by House Elf to the Headmaster in his chambers* |
[Aug. 24th, 2005|08:12 pm] |
Headmaster,
Having expressed my concern over this new assignment without avail, I have adapted the first term curriculum for all years in order to bring any diligent students to the recommended levels by winter holidays. Due to the incompetence unfortunate nature of several of my predecessors, many of the students may require additional tutelage in order to pass their exams. I'll suggest study groups to each class on the first day of term.
I will spend tomorrow cloaking my workroom so as to be accessible only through my private chambers -- which I assume to retain, given my designation as Head of House. The House Elves have been instructed to prepare the secondary workroom and the classroom for the new potions instructor.
I've enclosed a tonic for you as well -- with essences of walnut and willowroot. It may alleviate some of your discomfort.

| *Parchment spelled to Crabbe's desk in the dormitory* |
[Aug. 17th, 2005|05:27 pm] |
Mister Crabbe,
No, I do not know precisely where Gregory is at present, though I have received word that he will not be returning to Hogwarts this academic year. It is unclear whether he has been enrolled in another educational institution or has already chosen the path of his future. Doubtless, he will certainly be aware of your whereabouts.
I suggest that you take an early interest in your studies this year. My office hours hold despite being outside of term, should you choose to avail yourself of the opportunity to discuss your plans. If you have questions regarding last year's Greenhouse Construction project, Professor Sprout may often be found in the gardens.

| *Scroll spelled to Draco Malfoy* |
[Aug. 16th, 2005|10:51 pm] |
Yes, Malfoy, I've spoken with your father. Occasionally a parent will seek out his son's teacher, for any number of reasons.
As usual, he was most concerned that you remain focused on "the tasks at hand." As is most pressing for Seventh Year students, conclude your studies and prepare to make a place for yourself in the world. Should you require or request assistance, I am available during the usual times: Tuesday evenings between 7 and 9, Fridays after luncheon.

| *Spelled reply to Draco Malfoy* |
[Aug. 16th, 2005|07:50 pm] |
Thank you, Mister Malfoy.
Your father disclosed as much yesterday afternoon.
Welcome back. I trust that you are prepared to resume your studies with Miss Granger when classes begin on September 1. Ensure that you order any additional reading materials promptly; Flourish and Blotts has been rather behind with their deliveries, and I would hate to see your efforts languish for lack of planning.

| *Note spelled to his pillow, inches from Minerva's head* |
[Aug. 12th, 2005|06:54 am] |
Good morning, Minerva.
Breakfast waits for you in the sitting room. Tea is not included, nor will the House-Elves add it to the menu; Poppy is correct in her surmise. Enjoy your meal, then relax; you shall not be immediately missed.
As for Weasley's new condition; we'll know more after the lunar cycle. There's nothing to be done for him prior; if he is not slated to fully transform, Wolfsbane will kill him. As for how and why... obviously there is a werewolf giving in to the animalistic urges of violence and hunger for blood while in human form. Whether he does so alone, or at the compulsion of the Dark Lord's followers, is the question.
Rest, Severus |
