I am Severus Snape.
I have been informed that my nom de plume is a tribute to a character from Roman Mythology: Achates was a loyal, if lesser, friend to Aeneas (within Viril's Aeneid). Achates led Aeneas to Deiphobe, the Cumaean Sibyl, noted most remarkably for her fidelity.
Like the other professors at Hogwarts, I was coerced into participation in the Headmaster's Inter-House Unity project. I was assigned the centaur as a partner.
